Aquabears finished in 2nd place overall. Here
is the breakdown by age group:
The
BEAR 10/under girls had a fine showing, finishing 4th, only 15 points out of 2nd
place. Hannah Scobee led the way
with an 11th place finish in the 500, 6th place finishes in the 100 back and 100
IM, 5th place finishes in the 200 free and 100 fly, and a 4th place finish in
the 200 IM with a time of 2:40.66. Maire
Casey had a strong meet with an 18th place finish in the 50 breast, a 7th place
finish in the 100 breast, 6th place finishes in the 200 I.M., 200 Free, and 100
Fly, and a 3rd place finish in the 500 free with a 6:13.85.
Randi Katz finished 18th in the 50 free, 16th in the 500, 10th in the 100
IM, 8th in the 100 fly, 7th in the 200 I.M., and 5th in the 50 fly with a time
of 33.65. Helen Grant contributed
with an 18th place finish in the 50 fly, and Mary Kate McMahon made her large
cheering section happy with a best time in the 100 fly.
Helen, Hannah, Maire, and Randi combined for 7th place finishes in both
free relays, a 6th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, and an exciting 3rd
place finish in the 400 Medley Relay.
Alex
Pascal was high point winner in the 10/under boys division, winning all 6 of his
races by large margins. Alex won
the 500 free with a 5:52.49, the 50 and 100 breaststrokes with 35.61 and
1:19.62, the 50 and 100 butterfly events with 30.11 and 1:08.71, and the 200 I.M.
with a 2:29.88. Alex's time in the
50 fly was a National Top 16 reportable time.
Our
11/12 girls finished in 5th place as a team, led by distance high point winner
Katie Gardocki. Katie won the 200
and 500 free, the 200 back and I.M., and finished second in the 100 back and 200
fly. Five of Katie's swims were
National Top 16 reportable times including her 1:58.48 in the 200 free, her
5:11.33 in the 500 free, her 2:18.05 in the 200 fly, her 2:13.72 in the 200
back, and her 2:13.79 in the 200 I.M. Her
I.M. time missed the CT Resident record by only .28, but her 200 back time broke
the Connecticut and resident records. Chloe
Scobee had a strong meet, making finals in all six of her events.
She finished 17th in the 100 free, 15th in the 200 I.M. and 100 breast,
9th in the 500 free, and 8th in the 200 breast and 200 free.
Meg Murphy placed in two events, with an 18th place finish in the 100
breast and a 7th place finish in the 200 breast.
Jessica Allan finished 11th in the 200 fly, and completed our relays
which finished 9th in both freestyle events, 8th in the 200 Medley, and a strong
4th in the 400 Medley Relay.
The
BEAR 13/14 girls finished in 4th place behind high point winner Melanie Pascal
and distance high point winner Natalie Mazzetta.
Melanie was 5th in the 200 I.M (2:15.49) and 100 back, 3rd in the 500
Free (5:16.51) and 200 Back, 2nd in the 100 fly with a 59.31, and 1st in the 200
fly with a 2:10.55 Natalie was 7th
in the 200 I.M., 6th in the 200 free, and 2nd in the 500 (5:11.54), 1000
(10:42.57), 1650, and 400 I.M (4:40.61).
Abby Bolduc contributed with a 13th place finish in the 200 fly, while
Hannah Gotwals added an 18th in the 200 fly.
Melanie, Natalie, Hannah, and Jill Santer combined for a 10th place
finish in the 400 Free Relay, a 9th in the 400 Medley Relay, a 7th in the 200
Medley Relay, and a 6th in the 200 Free Relay.
The
13/14 boys finished in 6th place as a team.
Shaun Bruso was the team's top scorer with an 11th place finish in the
500, 10th in the 400 I.M., 8th place finishes in the 1000 free and 200 back, 4th
in the 1650, and 3rd in the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.23.
Kurt Murphy finished 15th in the 500 free, 11th in the 400 I.M. and the
100 fly, 7th in the 200 I.M., and 2nd in both breaststrokes, with a time of
1:03.85 in the 100. Andy Levine finished 18th in the 200 fly, 17th in the 400 I.M.,
15th in the 1000 free, 11th in the 100 breast, and 10th in the 200 breast with a
time of 2:29.86. Tom Casey
contributed with a 9th place finish in the 200 breast and a 14th place finish in
the 200 fly.
BEAR
15/18 girls won the team championship. It
was a team effort with 9 girls scoring in individual events.
Taryn Prout was the team's top scorer, and Emily Sundel won the distance
high point award. Taryn finished 7th in the 400 I.M., 3rd in the 100 fly, 2nd
in the 1000 and 1650, and won both the 200 fly (2:09.81) and 500 free (5:09.17).
Emily finished 10th in the 200 fly, 9th in the 200 free, 6th in the 400
I.M., 2nd in the 500 free, while winning both the 1000 free (10:25.04) and the
1650 (17:32.00). Sam Morse chipped in
with a 17th in the 200 breast, a 13th in the 400 I.M., 8th in the 200 free, 7th
in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 back, and 3rd in the 200 I.M. with a time of
2:14.42. Jamie Forsberg had a strong meet and finished 12th in the 400 I.M. and
200 back, 9th in the 200 I.M., 6th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:32.59, and
5th in the 100 breast with a 1:10.34. Kelby
Zimmerman finished 12th in the 200 I.M., 2nd in the 100 breast, and won the 200
breast with an outstanding time of 2:26.14.
Johannah Kos chipped in with a 5th in the 100 back and a 4th in the 200
I.M., while Sara Gardocki finished 13th in the 500 free and 10th in the 1650.
Kellen O'Gara and Kim Corredor placed in butterfly with Kellen finishing
17th in the 100 and 15th in the 200, while Kim finished 18th in the 200 fly.
Our relays placed well and showed our team depth all weekend, finishing
2-4-9 in the 800 Free Relay, 7/12 in the 200 Free Relay, 4/12 in the 400 Free
Relays, 1/5 in the 200 Medley Relay and 1-7 in the 400 Medley Relay.
The winning 200 Medley consisted of Sam, Kelby, Taryn, and Jamie, and the
400 Medley had Johannah teaming up with Kelby, Taryn, and Jamie.
The
BEAR 15/18 boys also won the team championship.
The team of Ben Levine, John Weaver, and Mike Prout swam well with Ben
and John finishing 1-2 for the high point trophy, while Mike won the distance
high point award. Ben and John
combined to win 9 of the 14 events offered in the age group, with 1-2 finishes
in both IM's. Ben finished 2nd in
the 1000 free, and won the 500 free, 200 back (1:59.28), 200 fly (1:59.64), and
both IM's (1:59.83/4:16.03). Ben
also contributed with leadoff relay splits of 56.17 in the 100 back and 1:46.97
in the 200 free. John Weaver
completed his season by dominating the breaststroke events, with wins in the 100
and 200 with times of 59.51 and 2:13.52. John
showed his versatility by also winning the 100 free (49.77) and 100 fly (54.05)
while also placing 2nd in both IM's, with a major drop in the 400 I.M. with a
strong 4:19.41. Mike finished in
6th in the 400 I.M. and 200 back, 5th in the 1000 free and 200 fly, and 3rd in
the 1650 and 500. His time in the
500 was 5:04.97.
